CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

“What?”

The massive Dragon’s head turned back towards me, as he had turned his head away momentarily with a contemplative look on his face. How I knew that was beyond me.

Nervously, since I had a gigantic Dragon in front of me, I asked him, “Hmm. What do you mean that it worked?”

The Dragon turned back towards me and chuckled. “I had plans before my death that I had hoped one day would pan out, and I’m glad that this one did. This plan had only about a one percent chance of working. I knew that there would be a chance that one day an Angel would come down here. I had heard God had a plan about sending one of his own sons down,” the Dragon continued. “I figured that there would be no way an Angel would not take the chance to have a child of God.”

“Shit, is that what happened? And wait. You said before your death. You’re not alive?” I asked, looking around the forested area.

“No, I am not alive in the conventional sense. I am merely a spectral representation of who I once was. Allow me to present myself. I am Brogon Firepeak, the Final Guardian of Dragons,” he answered, bowing his head down toward me. “And who might you be?”

Uncertainly, I told him, “Hmm. I’m Brian. Brian Laramie.”

“Ah. Welcome Brian Laramie.” Brogon Firepeak took a deep breath through his nose, and I noticed he had placed his head closer to me again. “Ah. I cannot believe it worked. Dragon and Angel!” He chuckled. “I’m sure the leader of the Angels would have a heart attack if he had a heart, knowing that there was a being that was part Dragon and part Angel walking on in the world.”

Puzzled, I asked him, “What do you mean?”

“What do you know of the battle between Angels and Dragons?”

“Hmm. Nothing? Until two weeks ago, I didn’t even know that magical folks were real. That Dragons, demons, and other things were actually real.”

“Ah,” he said, nodding his head. “Here, let me get more comfortable for our talk.”

In a mesmerizing display of transformation, the colossal Dragon before me underwent a remarkable metamorphosis. As if collapsing in upon himself, his towering form began to diminish in size. It started with his majestic tail, once a force to be reckoned with, gracefully vanishing into the ether. Next, his massive head, adorned with fearsome horns and powerful jaws, receded until it was no more. The process continued with startling speed, his colossal body shifting and morphing until what stood in place of the mighty Dragon was now a man.

The man, though still remarkably tall, no longer possessed the sheer magnitude of the original Dragon. Clad in a flowing white robe that billowed gently around him, he emanated an aura of ancient wisdom and profound tranquility. His attire was simple yet elegant, matching the serene expression on his face. The man’s presence exuded a sense of calm and an otherworldly air as if he embodied the timeless knowledge and power of the dragons themselves.
